Regardless of how many places I visit, Goa will always be that magical destination that holds a special place in my heart. It has always mesmerized my soul with its scenic beauty, exotic cuisine, magnificent art and culture and those sun-kissed beaches. And it's for this reason, anytime I'm reminded of this lovely place, I can't help but talk about it. Here are a few of my favourite things about Goa that always come up from time to time.
Goan Food: Being a foodie, I love exploring local food in every city and Goan food has always been my weakness! The authentic Goan dishes are something that you can’t miss.
Goan red rice and fish curry - A trip to Goa is incomplete if you haven’t tried the traditional red rice and fish curry. The red rice is also called Ukda rice. It is delicious, thick-grained with a reddish-brown color. This rice goes perfectly with Goan fish curry.
Kingfish - The typical way of eating this kingfish would be Goan style rava fish fry. Also popularly known as Vison or Viswan. The fish fillets are coated with Rava and either pan or deep-fried to form a crispy exterior and juicy interior. This one is a must try and it’s my personal favourite.
Prawns curry - Out of all the prawns dishes you find here, nothing is like the good ol’ prawns curry. Prawns marinated in coconut and a spice mix cooked to perfection and served with rice or roti. I can go back to Goa to dig into this lip-smacking cuisine anytime. Yes, I mean it!
Poi - Goan poi is my most favourite thing to eat especially because it is a guilt-free street snack. It is made of whole-wheat bun pairs and you have it with curries, butter, chai, etc. You can easily find this in any Goan bakery.
Goa’s Beaches: Goa is a magnificent state of beaches. There are many amazing beaches in Goa and here are a few of the most beautiful and popular ones:
Baga Beach - The perfect place for water sports enthusiasts, Baga Beach offers various water sport activities like parasailing, banana boat rides, etc. If you are there, don’t forget to check out the amazing beach shacks. You’ll find great food and an amazing place to chill.
Vagator Beach - A serene place to relax on any day. Be it morning or during the sunset, Vagator beach is the place to go. The beach also has multiple activities like parasailing, jet-skiing, trekking, and dolphin sighting.
Anjuna Beach - If you are a party animal, Anjuna beach is the one for you. A beach where the party never ends. Anjuna is one of the popular beaches in Goa known for its nightlife, full moon parties, exotic fire shows and music carnivals. When you visit, you will undoubtedly meet a diverse group of tourists from all around the world!
Candolim Beach - Yet another beach that you cannot miss when in Goa. With the sea hitting the shore, delicious Goan seafood and lots of activities. I would totally want to spend an entire day here. Candolim Beach, one of Goa's longest beaches, is also known as the "gateway" to the state's other prominent beaches. The beach that begins near Fort Aguada is tranquil and suited for relaxing, while nautical enthusiasts can enjoy activities such as parasailing and wakeboarding.
To be honest, there's no end! And if I have to talk about Goa, I could go on and on! The impression of Goa on me is profound and lasting; I'm enthralled by its delectable cuisine and beautiful beaches, but there's still so much more to see! Such as its fantastic forts, carnivals, marketplaces, resorts and so on. Goa is a one-of-a-kind experience. If you haven't visited yet, you are undoubtedly missing out on some amazing moments!
